What’s New With Baby

At 32 weeks pregnant, your baby is entering a stage of continued growth and strengthening. While major organs are formed, they’re becoming more efficient and coordinated with each passing week.

Your baby now weighs around 4 to 4½ pounds and continues gaining weight steadily. Much of this weight gain comes from accumulating fat, which plays an important role in temperature regulation and energy storage after birth.

Your baby’s lungs are continuing to mature, with increasing production of surfactant—a substance that helps keep air sacs open after birth. While lungs are still developing, this is an important step toward independent breathing.

Brain development remains a major focus. Neural connections are strengthening, and sleep–wake cycles are becoming more distinct. You may notice predictable periods of activity and rest throughout the day.

Movements can feel more deliberate now. Because space is tighter, you may notice more rolling or stretching sensations rather than quick kicks. This change is normal and expected at this stage.

How You’re Feeling

Week 32 often brings a mix of physical heaviness and emotional awareness.

Physical Sensations

Pelvic pressure may increase as your uterus continues to grow and your body prepares for birth. Some people feel this as heaviness or fullness low in the pelvis.

Braxton Hicks contractions may become more noticeable. These irregular tightenings are common in the third trimester and often ease with rest or hydration.

Digestive discomfort, including heartburn or bloating, may persist as your uterus presses upward. Smaller meals and avoiding lying down immediately after eating can help.

Leg cramps or restless legs may occur, especially at night. Gentle stretching and hydration can be supportive.

Emotional and Mental Experiences

Emotionally, some parents notice a shift toward inward focus or “nesting”—a desire to prepare and organize. Others feel more sensitive or reflective. All of these responses fall within the normal range.
