Big News: Perelel Is Now Clean Label Project-Certified

We hold our products—and your health—to a higher standard. That's why we're proud to share that our formulas have recently earned us certification from the Clean Label Project, a leading nonprofit that sets one of the industry’s highest standards for consumer transparency. In addition to Clean Label Project certification, Perelel has been awarded the organization's highest honor, the Purity Award. Of brands with Clean Label Project certification, only those whose products test within the top percentile of purity and quality receive this special designation.

With the growing divide between what consumers and governments deem “safe,” Clean Label Project (CLP) is working to bridge that gap by educating consumers on the safety and quality of consumer goods in today’s market. With the mission to bring truth and transparency to consumer product labeling, Clean Label Project believes that sometimes it’s what is not on a label that matters most. That’s because while product labels list ingredients that a product is known to contain, they don’t list the contaminants and additives that ingredients may come into contact with. These can include heavy metals, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and pesticide residue.

“Concerns of plasticizers, heavy metals, and other environmental toxins aren’t fringe any more,” says Perelel Director of Product Development, Kayte Angell. “The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recently published guidelines on reducing exposure to these endocrine and development disruptors. With links to infertility, miscarriage, hormone imbalances, endometriosis, and PCOS, it was imperative for us to go the extra mile to ensure our products were safe for every woman in every stage.” With this certification, Kayte continues, "we are adding another level of testing for additional heavy metal, pesticide, and endocrine disrupting chemicals to make sure our products both contain what we want and leave out what we don’t."

Here's a closer look at how the Clean Label Project Certification works:

  • Consumer Chain of Custody Sampling
    • The CLP team purchases products independently—how a consumer typically would. For Perelel, that means they go to our website and purchase our product directly. That gets mailed to them and they submit the product to their independent lab for testing. (This lab is different from the one we use for our own third-party testing!)
  • Heavy Metals Compliance
    • Each component in our packs is prepared and tested to confirm compliance with California’s Proposition 65 strict standards when it comes to Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, and Mercury. Such chemicals have been linked to numerous negative health outcomes and in pregnancy have the ability to cross the placenta, which is why even small amounts are concerning.
  • Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals Compliance
    • Our certified products are also tested for plasticizers which have been linked to endocrine disruption, numerous women’s health conditions, and infertility. Chemicals like BPA, BPS, Benzyl Butyl Phthalate, Dibutyl Phthalate, Dihexyl Phthalate, and Bis(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate. What matters most is the accumulation of these products from different sources, so you can rest easy knowing your supplements are working for you, not against you.
  • Pesticide Residue Compliance
    • A panel is completed to ensure compliance with the CLP Certification program to confirm our certified products don’t have detectable levels of nearly 200 pesticides commonly used in the agricultural industry.

"There is an inextricable link between mother and baby's health. Parents and parents-to-be seek the best in food and supplements, prioritizing quality and safety," said Jaclyn Bowen MPH, MS, executive director of Clean Label Project. "Clean Label Project is delighted to add Perelel to the ranks of leading brands committed to thinking about food safety differently for the sake of all families."

According to Kayte, “Unlike other certifications that test only the supplement or raw materials, it was important to us that our product was tested in its normal shipment state, packaging and all, so that your product is tested as it would actually be purchased, shipped, and consumed.”

The way we see it, our insistence on product excellence is core to our mission of creating a world with more healthy, supported women. Our commitment to your health is unparalleled—to do right by you, and future generations, too.
